Area Info
Isle of Palms is a place where history and nature coexist. Located less than 15 miles from downtown Charleston, the island offers sandy beaches and plenty of places to be social or relax.
History
The area has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Isle of Palms was originally used for agricultural purposes and remained mostly rural until the 20th century. First settled in the 1800s, it began to develop as a resort destination after the construction of a bridge to the island in 1931, making it more accessible. The island quickly became a popular getaway for Charleston's residents. Over the years, Isle of Palms has seen substantial development, growing into a well-known destination for vacationers with residential communities, vacation homes, and rental properties.

The fishing pier near the County Park is private and reserved for guests of the adjacent Sea Cabins and Oceanside Villas. You can fish from the public docks at the Isle of Palms Marina.
